What are the Benefits of Dry Needling?

Dry Needling is a type of treatment used by Physiotherapists and other qualified Medical Professionals to treat and manage muscular pain.

At Sutherland Shire Physiotherapy Centre in Miranda, all our practitioners are qualified and experienced in treating pain and muscular tension using Dry Needling Techniques.

Our Physiotherapists, use fine gauge, single use needles to penetrate target muscles under the skin's surface. The aim is to hit "trigger points" that lie within the muscle tissue. This can cause an involuntary twitch response in the muscle which therefore leads to increased blood flow and oxygenation of the surrounding tissue and in doing so generates a healing response.

What are the Benefits?

The physiological affect of improved oxygenation and blood flow to the muscle helps to:

  • Improve Pain

  • Reduced muscle spasm

  • Increased Range of movement

  • Increased Flexibility

What does it feel like?

While every patient is different, most describe the feeling of Dry Needling as a deep, dull pressure. Many patients report that the sensation of the muscle 'twitching' is relieving.

Often the first time you have Dry Needling you feel a mild aching sensation in the muscle for up to 4 hours following treatment. This feeling is similar to that of after a normal physiotherapy treatment or a deep tissue massage.

How much does it cost?

Nothing! Dry Needling is included in the cost of your consultation with your Physiotherapist at Sutherland Shire Physiotherapy Centre.
